Register a system and get a license

Each FireSight installation is a system on the portal, identified by its system serial. You register it by uploading its activation request, then ask for licenses for it.

Register a system

  1. In FireSight, open Settings, License, and click Download activation request. It saves firesight-<serial>.req. See Licensing.
  2. On the portal, open Systems & licenses.
  3. Under Register a system, optionally enter a Name (such as Production).
  4. Choose the file under Activation request (.req) and click Register system.

The portal says System … registered. and opens the system's page.

Registering the same system again (for example with a newer request) updates its details. A system registered to another organisation can't be registered again: This system is already registered to another account. If it changed hands, contact FireSight support.

Activation request messages

Message What to do
That isn't a FireSight activation request. Upload the .req file from Settings, License, Download activation request, unchanged.
The activation request is damaged. / The activation request is damaged or was changed. Download a new one and upload it unchanged.
This request was made for a different portal key. Update FireSight, then download a new one. Upgrade FireSight, then download a new request.

That file is far too large to be an activation request. You chose the wrong file.

Ask for a license

Under Ask for a license:

  1. Choose what I need:
    • A license for this system;
    • A renewal;
    • More firewalls.
  2. Enter the number of Firewalls (it starts at the current license's count, or the firewalls in use).
  3. Optionally add a Note: an order number, the term, anything FireSight should know.
  4. Click Send request.

The request goes to your reseller if you have one, otherwise to FireSight: Request sent to … You'll get an email when the license is ready. Requests lists your recent requests and their status (open or done).

When a license is issued, everyone active at your organisation gets an email: FireSight license ready for ….

Download and install a license

  1. On the system's page, click Download .lic next to the license. The file is named <serial>.lic.
  2. In FireSight, open Settings, License, Install a license file, choose the file and click Install license.

Revoked licenses can't be downloaded. A renewal issued to start in the future can be installed straight away: FireSight keeps it until its start date.

Moved to new hardware?

If FireSight says its hardware no longer matches the license (for example after a move or rebuild), the license keeps working for 30 days while it is re-hosted:

  1. In FireSight on the new hardware, click Download activation request.
  2. On the system's page, under Moved to new hardware?, choose the file and click Upload and request re-host.

The request must come from the same system (the same serial); otherwise the portal says That request is from system …, not …. The portal saves the new hardware details and asks for a re-host: New hardware details saved, and a re-host was requested. Install the new license file when you get it.

A completely new installation (a new database) has a new serial: register it as a new system instead.
