FireSight docs

For resellers

Resellers manage licensing for their own customers on the portal, within an allowance set by FireSight. You only see customers assigned to you.

The reseller area has two pages in the top menu: Customers and Team.

Your licensing allowance

The Your licensing allowance box shows:

  • how many firewalls are in active licenses, out of your allowance, and how many are left;
  • the longest term you may issue (terms up to N months);
  • a bar of how much is used.

No allowance yet. Contact FireSight to start licensing customers. means FireSight hasn't set one; you can't issue licenses until it does.

How the allowance is counted:

  • Every unexpired license you issued counts.
  • A system counts at its largest unexpired license. Issuing a smaller license for the same system doesn't give firewalls back while a bigger file is still valid.
  • A revoked license stops counting only if it was never downloaded. A downloaded file keeps working until it expires, so it keeps counting.

Customers

The Customers page lists your customers (Customer, Country, and how many people). Waiting for you lists open license requests from your customers; click one to open the system.

Add a customer

  1. Under Add a customer, enter the Company and Country.
  2. Optionally enter Invite their administrator with an email address. They get an invitation as a customer administrator.
  3. Click Add customer.

A customer's page

  • Systems: each system with its serial, firewalls and license.
  • People: everyone at the customer, with their role and status. To invite someone, enter an email under Invite by email, choose Customer administrator or Customer user, and click Send invitation.
  • Register a system for them: upload the customer's activation request (.req), with an optional Name, and click Register system.

Issue a license

  1. Open the system (from the customer's page or Waiting for you).
  2. Under Issue a license (or Renew or change if it has a current license), enter:

    Field Meaning
    Firewalls From 1. Starts at the current license's count, or the firewalls in use.
    Term (months) Default 12, up to your allowance's maximum term.
  3. Click Issue license.

The license starts now and runs for the term. It is bound to the system's serial and hardware. A renewal or change keeps the same license ID and replaces the current license in FireSight once installed. Issuing closes the system's open requests, and everyone active at the customer gets an email that the license is ready.

The portal refuses a license that would go over your allowance: That would use N of your M firewalls. X are left. It also refuses terms longer than your maximum.

Download .lic downloads any license that isn't revoked.

Revoke a license

Click Revoke next to a license you issued. Only the reseller who issued a license can revoke it.

A revoked license can't be downloaded from the portal any more. A copy already downloaded keeps working until it expires, so revoke before the customer downloads it if you want the firewalls back in your allowance.

Team

Team lists the people at your organisation. Reseller administrators can invite colleagues: enter the Email, choose Reseller user or Reseller administrator, and click Send invitation. Invitation links work once, for 72 hours.
